Main Intention:

 

Our main intention is to create and merge a dynamic shoot'em up game with the mechanic of view switching controlled by the player.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Game Details:

 

As it is said in the first part of the Maya bible (cf. Popol Vuh), the god of corn was playing too loudly at the ball game and got his head cut off and hanged on a tree in Xibalba, Mayan's hell and kingdom of 12 evil lords. But while hanging, the head spitted in the hand of one lord's daughter and impregnated her. She then gave birth on earth to the Hero Twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque.

 

In the second part, there is a rediscovery of the ball game by the Twins who challenged and defeated the evil lords. Outwitting the lords and becoming immortal, they ascended to the sky as constellations, one becoming the Moon and the other one the Sun.

 

 

 

Pitch:

 

In the game Xibalba, you will control the Twins, in their mask forms, and will be challenged to survive the 6 Houses of Mayan's Hell due to their selfish behavior on earth. The Xibalban lords also order them to harvest as many souls as possible in order to redeem themselves, sacrifying women and children only to quench their thirst of power.

 

 

 

The Power of Day and Night:

 

As semi-gods, you will have the power to swap from day to night by switching characters from side view (night) to top view (day). This will affect the characters but also the enemies, the rooms and the items according to the view you will choose to fight in.

 

 

 

The 6 Houses:

 

In Mayan's culture, the universe is represented as a tree planted on a turtle's shell. The branches represent heaven, the trunk the humans' world and the roots, Hell, also called Xibalba. In Xibalba 12 powerful lords reign sharing 6 Houses: The Dark House, the Jaguar House, the Bat House, the Razor House, the Rattling and the Hot House.

 

Xibalba is a gallery shooter game meaning that you fight in levels (the Houses) divided by static rooms. The level generation is randomly set upon many properties such as level and room patterns, enemy styles, bosses and more. The level difficulty will also significantly rise from level to level.

 

During your challenge to get through Mayan's Hell in order to harvest souls, you will encounter and defeat demons of all styles. All of them have two abilities depending on the selected view and can also merge or split during character switching.
