Project Xibalba

Xibalba is a video game project developed by 5 students in 3rd year Game Bachelor at Aries school in Lyon, France. Only the sound performer comes from another university ( Lyon 2 Musicology section ). The constraint was to deliver a game prototype in 5 months.

Xibalba is a Shoot'Em Up in which you control half-god half-human twins, one representing the sun and the other one the moon. The camera can be switched from side view to top view, there by controlling one twin or the other, enemies' abilities, room patterns and more.

Game Description:
Background

The Evil Gods challenge you to survive through the six Houses of Xibalba, the Mayan's Hell, and to harvest for them as many souls as possible as payback for your selfish behavior in the humans' world.

As semi-gods, you have no choice but to accept the challenge, except that you will take the form of a mask in order to protect yourself.

Shoot'em Up

Shoot'em Up is a game type derived from action games in which the player controls a vehicle or a character which has to destroy a large number of enemies thanks to increasingly powerfull weapons looted through the different levels.

Dodging is usually an important skill to develop in this type of game.

Camera Switch

Our USP (Unique Selling Point) is mixing the Shoot'em Up game type with the camera switch mechanic. In Xibalba you will control the sun mask in the top view and the moon mask when you switch to the side view.

Enemies, items and level patterns will also change depending on the view you will choose or will be forced to play in.
